What is Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

In September 2015 Heads of State and Government agreed to set the world on a path towards sustainable development through the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 169 targets and 217 indicators, which set out quantitative objectives across the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, all to be achieved by 2030. What we do?

The key mandates of the Ministry of Economy are: Developing national socio-economic policies, strategies and development plans. Coordinating all the plans, policies and strategies in the country; Monitor and evaluate all the economic activities in the country; Reporting the implementation status of the development projects to the cabinet and other relevant agencies; Appraise and prioritizing all the proposed development projects in the country; Issuing licenses to the NGOs; Monitoring and leading the NGOs activities. MoEC well played the coordination role with central statistics organization to finalize the nationalized indicators of SDGs. Moving on, Ministry of Finance who is leading the ANPDF where SDGs are supposed to be aligned with the ANPDF, several consultation meetings took place in technical level and deputy ministerial level to identify the activities which are covered under the ANPDF where the base is the six development councils and SDGs base is the eight budgetary sectors. SDG Secretariat

The Implementation of SDGs and the lessons learned from MDGs enabled Ministry of economy to design a focused secretariat, where dedicated team and experts are working on the coordination with line ministries on the data collection, data availability and data analysis for the nationalization of SDGs. SDGs Board

To consult Ministry of Economy leadership and put them in loop on the progress status of SDGs implementation, as per H.E. Minister of Economy the SDGs Board was established where the board members meet bi-weekly to discuss and table all the progress made and the challenges which noticed by SDGs secretariat in the implementation phase of SDGs.
